Intel is cutting another 67 jobs at its Folsom campus, according to a state layoff notice filed Oct. 22.

The Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (WARN) filing lists the affected site as 1900 Prairie City Road, the chipmaker's sprawling campus along the Highway 50 corridor, according to the California Employment Development Department's WARN database. The Folsom Times first reported details of the filing on Oct. 28.

The first separations are expected during the two-week period beginning after Oct. 31, with additional departures potentially extending into November, the Folsom Times reported.

Affected employees work in technical, engineering, management and business-related roles. The positions include five analog product development engineers, 14 product development engineers and jobs in systems architecture, software development, sales and program management, according to the Folsom Times' review of the filing.

Workers either received at least 60 days of advance notice or will get two weeks of notice before their separation dates, the filing states, according to the Folsom Times. Employees in the latter group will receive nine weeks of pay and benefits.

Steady decline at Folsom's largest tech campus

The 67 cuts mark Intel's first major round of Folsom layoffs since August 2025, when the company eliminated 83 positions, the Folsom Times reported. Those were part of a series of 2025 reductions that eliminated about 485 Folsom jobs during the year.

Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan, who took the role in 2025, has continued restructuring the company. Intel's global workforce fell from about 131,900 in 2022 to roughly 77,600 by the end of the second quarter of 2026, according to the Folsom Times.

Locally, the toll has been steep. Intel employed more than 6,000 workers in Folsom as recently as 2018, the Folsom Times reported. By the end of 2023, that figure had dropped to about 4,300 after 784 positions were eliminated that year. Another 272 Folsom jobs were cut in October 2024 as part of a companywide push to reduce expenses by about $10 billion.

The Real Deal reported in September that the campus currently houses fewer than 4,000 employees after multiple rounds of layoffs over the past three years. The property has capacity for 10,000.

Campus sale reversed, but cuts continue

The layoffs come about two months after Intel reversed course on a plan to sell the 162-acre campus and lease back a portion of it. Intel had announced the sale-leaseback strategy in November 2024, during a period of aggressive cost-cutting.

In a statement shared with the Folsom Times in September, Intel said retaining ownership "best supports our long-term objectives." The company called the reversal a strategic reassessment unrelated to the quality of proposals it received.

The campus spans about 1.68 million square feet across seven buildings, including laboratory and data center space. Intel has operated at the site since 1984.

That real estate decision, however, has not slowed workforce reductions. No new hiring initiative, campus expansion or additional investment was announced alongside the decision to keep the property, the Folsom Times reported in September.

The EDD WARN database also shows Intel filed layoff notices in late July 2026 for 103 positions across four Santa Clara facilities. The Folsom and Santa Clara filings are both classified as permanent layoffs.
