Oak Ridge High School graduate Robert Gasser pitched six scoreless innings in Game 3 of the World Series on Monday, Oct. 26, leading the Milwaukee Brewers to a 10-1 rout of the Tampa Bay Rays and a commanding 3-0 series lead.
The El Dorado Hills native allowed one hit, walked one batter and struck out three at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Fla., Village Life reported. He faced the minimum 18 batters through six innings, becoming the first World Series starter to do that since Arizona's Curt Schilling in 2001 and the first left-hander since Sandy Koufax in 1965, according to NPR.
The lone hit came on a line-drive single by Yandy Díaz leading off the first inning. Gasser then retired 14 consecutive batters before issuing a walk in the sixth, NPR reported.
Milwaukee's offense erupted in the fifth inning with a postseason-record seven consecutive two-out hits, scoring eight runs to blow the game open. It marked the first time in World Series history that a team scored eight two-out runs in a single inning.
Gasser said the rally caught him off guard in the dugout. He told NPR he was getting ready to pitch when the two-out barrage started, and "next thing you know, 40 minutes later, I have to go out on the field."
Jackson Chourio went 4-for-5 with a double. Brice Turang and William Contreras each collected three hits as the Brewers racked up 16 total, NPR reported.
From Oak Ridge to October
Gasser grew up in El Dorado Hills and played baseball at Oak Ridge before attending New Mexico, San Joaquin Delta College and the University of Houston, according to Yahoo Sports. The San Diego Padres selected the left-hander 21st overall in the 2021 MLB Draft. He was traded to Milwaukee in 2022 as part of the deal for closer Josh Hader.
Tommy John surgery delayed his path to the majors. Gasser made 20 starts in his official rookie season in 2026, posting a 3.87 ERA before elevating his game in October, Yahoo Sports reported.
Across three postseason starts against the Padres, Los Angeles Dodgers and Rays, Gasser has posted a 0.60 ERA over 15 innings, allowing one total run.
Oak Ridge High School celebrated on X before the game, posting, "Oak Ridge Alumni, Robert Gasser, is a Starting Pitcher in the World Series Tonight!" San Francisco Giants broadcaster F.P. Santangelo also posted on X, calling Gasser a source of "Trojan Pride."
The Hard 90 Baseball training facility in El Dorado Hills lists Gasser among its alumni alongside major leaguers Mauricio Dubón and Nick Madrigal.
What's next
The Brewers, who led the majors with 103 regular-season wins, have won eight straight postseason games. Only the 2004 Boston Red Sox have ever rallied from a 3-0 deficit in a best-of-seven postseason series.
Game 4 is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 27, at Tropicana Field. Griffin Jax is set to start for Tampa Bay. Milwaukee had not announced a starter as of Tuesday morning.
