Actress Zendaya showed up at Bulldog Stadium on Friday, Oct. 23, to watch her nephew EJ Coleman and the undefeated Folsom Bulldogs survive a 42-41 thriller against Del Oro.
The surprise visit, first reported by the Sacramento Bee, sent photos and videos racing across social media over the weekend. Zendaya, 30, was spotted in the school's "Dog House" section behind one end zone, an area reserved for family and friends on Senior Night, according to SFGate.
She did not blend in.
The Oakland native wore a custom T-shirt featuring Coleman in uniform and hand-decorated jeans with "EJ" and Bulldogs logos on them, SFGate reported. During halftime, "Wonderwall" by Oasis came over the stadium speakers, and Zendaya was seen dancing and singing along, according to the New York Post. Fans began walking over to introduce themselves, and she greeted them with hugs. She also posed for a group photo with Folsom's cheerleading squad.
Coleman, a senior middle linebacker and tight end, is a three-star recruit who committed to Washington State in May. He ranked second on the team in tackles per game at 7.0 through Oct. 12, according to MaxPreps, and had logged 2.0 sacks and one interception this season. SFGate reported he scored a touchdown on a fumble return in a September win over Sacred Heart Cathedral at Kezar Stadium in San Francisco.
The game itself was a classic. Folsom scored a touchdown and converted a two-point conversion in the final eight seconds to escape with the one-point win, according to the New York Post. The victory extended the Bulldogs' winning streak to 21 games and pushed their record to 9-0, per MaxPreps. Folsom won the CIF Division 1-AA state championship last season, beating Cathedral Catholic 42-28 to finish 14-1, the New York Post reported.
After the win, Coleman posted a photo with Zendaya on Instagram, according to USA Today. He referred to her as his "auntie" across multiple social media platforms, SFGate reported.
The Bulldogs have a bye before traveling to Jesuit at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 6.
