Silva Valley Elementary third-grader Peyton Law crossed the finish line first in the third-grade mile race at the El Dorado County Sports League Cross Country Finals on Wednesday, Oct. 14.
Law, who attends the El Dorado Hills school, posted a time of 7:09.77 at the El Dorado County Fairgrounds, where K-5 students from 30 schools competed across 10 grade-level divisions, Village Life reported. The event drew an estimated 4,000 runners, officials and family members.
Each school sent two representatives per grade. Runners competed in 1-mile and 1.5-mile races, though the source did not specify which distances applied to which grade levels beyond the third-grade mile.
The meet was not short on energy. California Montessori Project Hawks teammates Jordan Berggren, 10, and Henry Ziegler, 10, sprinted from the starting line in a fourth-grade race, according to Village Life. Their finishing positions were not reported.
Medals went to the top three finishers in each race. Runners placing through 15th earned ribbons. Every participant received a sticker, and trophies were awarded to schools that won the team competition. The winning schools were not identified in available results.
The El Dorado County Sports League Cross Country Finals brought together elementary runners from across the county for a day of competition at the fairgrounds. Full individual and team results were not available at the time of publication.
