The Murer House Foundation is enrolling students in four Italian language classes at its Learning Center in Old Folsom, with the first sessions starting Monday, Sept. 14.
Classes run eight weeks in small groups and cost $170, or $155 for foundation members. Fees are due at the first class and are nonrefundable. All classes meet at the Murer House Learning Center, 1125 Joe Murer Court.
Registration is open now.
The fall lineup, listed on the foundation's language classes page, includes four options across different skill levels:
- Beginning Italian (Italiano Uno), taught by Ellie, meets Mondays from Sept. 14 through Nov. 2, 5–6:30 p.m. The travel-focused course covers pronunciation, greetings, numbers and basic vocabulary for trips abroad.
- Italian 3 (Italiano Tre), taught by Dan, meets Mondays from Sept. 14 through Nov. 2, 7–8:30 p.m. It targets students who can form simple present-tense sentences and want to expand their vocabulary.
- Italian Level 4 (Italiano Quattro), taught by Giorgio, meets Thursdays from Oct. 8 through Dec. 3, 5–6:30 p.m., with no class Nov. 26. Students build on present-tense sentence formation.
- Intermediate Conversational Italian, taught by Jim, meets Thursdays from Sept. 24 through Nov. 12, 3–4:30 p.m. Students read, translate and discuss stories and songs. No textbook is required; materials are sent out six days before each lesson.
The three structured courses use the textbook Prego! 6th Edition, available used online.
Students on the foundation's website praised the small-group format. One described the class interaction as "excellent" and "very conducive to learning."
The nonprofit, led by president Anthony Scotch, has operated the historic Murer House and Gardens on behalf of the City of Folsom since 1997, according to the foundation's website. The site was added to the National Register of Historic Places in early 2022, and the city approved a 55-year lease for the foundation to continue managing the property, according to city records.
The Folsom Arts and Culture Commission recognized the Murer House Foundation with its 2026 Organization Award on May 14.
