Oak Ridge's varsity girls' cross country team beat 19 other squads to win the Soiree Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 5, at Sunset Whitney Recreation Area in Rocklin.

The Trojans scored 36 points across a field of 202 female runners in the Soiree heat, a 3,000-meter race reserved for each team's fastest athletes. The boys' squad placed third with 96 points among 438 runners, according to results published by the Mountain Democrat.

The invitational's format seeds 3,000-meter heats by each athlete's fastest mile time, building toward the Soiree heats at the end of the morning. A 4-by-mile relay opens the meet before the distance races begin.

Five Oak Ridge girls finished in the top 10. Junior Lauren Tiedeman led the way in fourth place at 11:05.00, followed by senior Maya Day in sixth at 11:07.00. Addie Yip (seventh, 11:10.50), Sky Buu (ninth, 11:13.60) and Sutton Paulsen (10th, 11:14.80) rounded out the top five. All five crossed the line within nine seconds of one another.

Oak Ridge head coach Rob Fairley called it "a very impressive team effort," noting the varsity girls placed five runners in the top 10 and nine in the top 19 out of 202 athletes.

The girls also swept the relay podium. Their top three teams finished first, second and seventh in the 4-by-mile.

On the boys' side, sophomore Luca Miller paced the Trojans with a fifth-place finish in 9:26.50. Freshman Jude Nartker was 14th in 9:43.60, followed by Ben Gutierrez (19th, 9:48.10), Austin Mackovic (24th, 9:55.80) and Jack Clarke (34th, 10:04.40). The gap between Miller and Clarke was 38 seconds. Filip Kruckenberg added a 37th-place finish in 10:07.80.

Davis won the boys' Soiree heat with 58 points. Jesuit placed second with 83.

The boys' relay teams placed second, sixth and 13th.

Oak Ridge's next meet is the Sierra Foothill League No. 1 at William Jessup University on Wednesday, Sept. 16.
