Emergency crews pulled the body of an adult male from Lake Natoma near Folsom on Thursday, Oct. 22, after what started as a water rescue call turned into a recovery operation.

The Folsom Fire Department and California State Parks responded to the scene just before 1 p.m. with specialized water rescue equipment, according to Folsom Times, which first reported the story. The call came from an area of the lake just west of the Willow Creek Recreation Area, near the floating restroom.

Crews found the deceased person in the water near the shore. The response was reclassified from an active rescue to a body recovery.

"The incident command quickly scaled back the incident to a body recovery, releasing resources except the rescue boat, a fire engine and a command unit," said Nick Lawlor, public information officer for the Folsom Fire Department.

Lawlor said it is unknown how long the individual had been in the water before crews arrived. Additional fire personnel, emergency medical crews and command staff were assigned to assist with the response and coordinate operations on the lake.

Radio communications from the scene indicated the case would be handled as a coroner's matter, and the Sacramento County Coroner's Office was dispatched to the location. Emergency personnel completed the recovery, and the coroner's office took over the case.

Authorities have not released the identity of the deceased or any details beyond confirming the person was an adult male. The circumstances that led to the initial emergency call also remain unclear, according to the Folsom Times report.

The Sacramento County Coroner's Office is handling the investigation following the completion of the recovery operation. California State Parks, which helped respond to the initial call, is also involved in the case.
