Free trick-or-treating returns to Folsom's Historic District on Saturday, Oct. 24, from 2 to 5 p.m. The annual Festifall celebration brings candy, inflatables and a kids costume contest to Sutter Street.
Children in costume can walk the district and collect treats from participating merchants, who will display "Participating Merchant" signs at their doors, according to the Folsom Historic District Association's event page. Admission is free.
Many shopkeepers along the street traditionally dress up and decorate their storefronts for the afternoon, Folsom Times reported.
Bayside Church of Folsom is sponsoring the event and providing inflatables, crafts and games in the Sutter and Wool streets parking lot, according to Folsom Times.
A kids costume contest, presented by Cynthia's Dance Center, takes place at the Zittel Family Amphitheater. Contestants are called to the stage at 4 p.m., with a costume parade at 4:10 p.m. and awards immediately after, according to the event page.
The contest has five age categories. Two children in each group receive an Outstanding Costume Trophy, and every contestant gets a medallion. Registration is free, but a $5 cash entry fee per child is collected at the stage during check-in. Families can register by contacting Cynthia's Dance Center at [email protected] or by texting 916-801-6553.
Festifall follows the adults-only Spirits, Brews & Bites event that drew more than 600 ticket holders to the same district on Saturday, Oct. 17. That event, presented by the Folsom Historic District Association (FHDA), sold out before it opened, Folsom Times reported.

Also on Saturday, Oct. 24: The Foothill Wine Fest runs from 2 to 6 p.m. at Folsom Palladio's East Bidwell parking garage, featuring tastings from more than 30 local wineries, according to Style Magazine.
