Folsom High graduate Jordan Ford is leading the St. Mary’s Gaels into the NCAA tournament during March Madness. The Gaels were tabbed as the #11 seed in the South region. They will open the tournament against #6 seed and defending champion, Villanova on Thursday.
St. Mary’s defeated top ranked Gonzaga this past Tuesday 60-47, in a huge upset. Ford scored 17 points in the victory. Playing in his 3rd season, the junior led the conference in scoring during the 2018-19 season, averaging just over 21 points per game. The victory gave St. Mary’s the West Coast Conference Championship and an automatic bid into the tournament.
In 2018, St. Mary’s was snubbed despite a 28-5 record. Their most recent trip to the tourney was in 2017, when they advanced to the second round. The Gaels were the #7 seed and defeated #10 seed Virginia Commonwealth, before losing to #2 seed Arizona.
