On Thursday Sacramento Sheriffs Deputies arrested a man for impersonating a Sacramento Sheriff Deputy while at the Sacramento airport. Deputies responded to investigate a report of a possibly abandoned law enforcement vehicle by the airport. A man exited the airport dressed in a Sacramento Sheriff uniform, and also had a handgun. Responding officers questioned the man after they became suspicious of his behavior. After questioning man and determining he was not a deputy, they arrested 33 year old Folsom resident Brad Beaver. Beaver had told the deputy that he worked at the jail, but the deputy did not recognize him. Beaver’s car did have emergency lights, but no other official markings. It was determined that he was at the airport to pick someone up. Sheriff’s officials stressed that he did not enter a secure area, nor did he have the credentials to do so.
Sheriff’s detectives investigated Beaver and obtained a search warrant for his home. From the department press release:
Detectives later served a search warrant at Beaver’s home where they located several firearms including an AR pattern rifle and a large quantity of rifle and handgun ammunition. Also discovered during the search, were several ballistic vests and other vests with law enforcement markings, badges, and insignias; which are traditionally worn by Sheriff’s Department personnel.
Through this investigation, it was discovered Beaver is not a peace officer anywhere in California, nor has he ever been employed in any capacity by the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department. He is currently in custody at the Sacramento County Main Jail where he is being held in lieu of $1,000,000.00 bail and is facing several charges including but not limited to illegal weapons possession and impersonating a peace officer.
Detectives are asking anyone who suspects they have been contacted by Beaver in a questionable manner to contact the Sheriff’s Department at (916) 874-5115. Tip information may also be left anonymously at www.sacsheriff.com or by calling (916) 874-TIPS (8477).
