From the Folsom Police Department:
It may not have been the outcome he hoped for, but a Fair Oaks man was on his way back to jail about an hour after being released early this morning. Matthew Carl Griffin, 25, of Fair Oaks was released from the Sacramento County Jail early Thursday morning from an earlier Driving under the Influence arrest. He reportedly hailed a taxi for a ride back to Fair Oaks but ended up directing his ride to go into Folsom instead.
Just before 4 am, near the intersection of Folsom Boulevard and Greenback Lane, Griffin reportedly punched the cab driver and took his cell phone. The cab driver, a 57 year old man, fled the cab to get help. That’s when Griffin allegedly drove off in the taxi. Officers were alerted to the reported theft and began searching the area for the stolen vehicle. Folsom Police officers found the car a few minutes later on Folsom Boulevard near Highway 50 and stopped the driver. Griffin was arrested and taken back to jail, this time booked on suspicion of carjacking and robbery. The taxi driver was treated for facial lacerations at a local hospital and released.
